Day 3…

Day three was a more relaxing day , we got up had our cereal and headed down to the pool to relax for a bit in the sun. The weather was amazing , around 24 degrees which felt like a sauna! We took a little dip in the pool that felt like Ice water when entering, it definitely felt like I was being tortured. After lying in the sun for about an hour I got very bored, I don’t understand how some people could lie at the poolside all day, I would definitely go out of my mind.

We decided to have a little trip into a little tourist town called Bugibba (pronounced B-U-J-I-B-A) . This is such a lovely little spot for food and drinks but first we had a walk up and down to see all the small shops with souvenirs and little hand crafts along with some people selling fake handbags and shoes.

We decided to head to the aquarium in Bugibba, we walked around 15 minutes to the aquarium and luckily we have some vouchers That gave us €3 euro off our tickets each . The price of the tickets are still pretty expensive for what you see, some small sharks and reptiles along with many variety’s of fish but we expected more.

After leaving the aquarium my other half started to feel very unwell but we wanted food so a quick stop to McDonald it was. The McDonald’s in Bugibba was amazing, the chicken wings, the very salty chips and chicken nuggets were all hot and fresh!

Time to head back to the hotel were we realized my other half had mild sun stroke, force feeding him paracetamol and forcing him into a luke warm bath to balance out his temperature. This seemed to work and he felt better after a few hours enough to head to dinner.

The fortress was just a minute away from our hotel in a perfect spot overlooking St Paul’s bay, the food came after around 25 minutes and the pizza I received was huge. The pizza was just okay, nothing special but good for the money, the cocktail I received was very good but overpriced at €6.

The day was very up and down but off to bed to recuperate for the next day…..

Valletta..

The bus ride to Valletta was of course an experience again but I have already talked about that fun realness. When we got to Valletta we couldn’t believe the beauty of this amazing city, the old buildings made with maltese limestone with a touch of modern where unbelievable to look at. Everywhere you look there is something amazing architecturally about the city , we continued to walk around and take in the sites. We then arrived at the most amazing gardens that overlooked the harbours of Valletta and the three cities, this is where you can see that Malta was built to be a fort during the war, the history involved in this country is so intriguing and definitely a place to visit if you are a history buff.

We looked in a few shops in Valletta but there are not many modern shops here like most cities, it is mostly small local shops and alot of hand made crafts which are perfect for gifts and souvenirs. I felt very relaxed there in Valletta as there are not any people trying to push you to buy there products, this gives a more relaxed environment that is perfect on holiday.

For dinner we went to a local ‘British’ pub , this served traditional British dishes along with a few Maltese dishes. I ordered the fish and chips that came out fairly fast and looked huge, the food was delicious and very reasonable for the money.

As the day went on we were exhausted so our next plan was the bus home. Falling asleep and trying to stay awake so I didn’t miss my stop was my next task, the buses in the evenings are very full and hot! Finally back at the hotel and definitely failing to be the party animal I should be at 25 we decided to call it a night!!

Our next day adventure awaited us..

The excitement of day 2.

Day 2 started out very rocky. We headed down for breakfast and thought it would be served buffet style like a normal hotel. When we found a seat we went up to try and get food to realise there wasn’t really any available. The cereal dispenser was empty, no fruit available or pastries, the orange juice came out of the dispenser as dirty water! Another guest let me know that you have to order a cooked breakfast, so that’s what we did to then wait for 15 minutes to be presented with watery scrambled egg, stone cold sausage and bacon. Horrific wouldnt even cover it, we were dreading the week to come so I contacted our holiday representative that sorted it straight away with the hotel who offered us our breakfast money back for the week that we graciously accepted as we did not want to eat another bite of their food.

Day 2 did not start the greatest for us but it definitely got better as we headed towards the beautiful capital city of Valletta.

The first day..

The first day in Malta was full of joy and excitement! We arrived at our hotel and quickly realised we were so out of the way! There was not much to see around our hotel apart from the beautiful view of the bay (even though our balcony overlooked houses). The hotel was clean and the staff where very friendly but lacked any information that they should have provided! Exploration time as hunger approched, as we walked one direction from our hotel we soon realised there was nothing there and we turned around and walked the opposite direction! We walked and walked and walked until finally and hour later we came to a restaurant! Looking at the menu we where excited so we took our chances and it payed off apart from a little lack of service! During dinner we looked outside to realize it was pouring with rain… (We came to Malta to escape the rain) . After dinner we made a break for it in the rain to then hop in to a nearby hotel and order a taxi.. the taxi man showed up in a huge rush and ordered the €15 euro up front to then drive like a mad man the whole way back . In Malta you are definitely taking your life in your hands getting any type of transport! Finally arrived back at the hotel in one piece and headed for a good night’s sleep in a rock hard bed with very humid conditions!

Exploration day number 2……

St Pauls bay!

Where to begin…

Malta was an experience and a half. The driving would send you to have heart failure with every corner you are holding on for dear life. There is no such thing as give way to the right and the buses just push on through anything! This little country has been through alot with its amazing history and architecture! Many more brutally honest reviews on this little country to come!

The little island of Malta!
